Getting to the Southside in Tandem

Waking up to a glorious day Saturday had us thinking outside and what to do. So agreeing it would be a great day to ride a bike and head to the south side of Pittsburgh, we waited as the day warmed and hit the "T" for a trip to The Golden Triangle Bicycle Rentals at the First Street stop. Here it was just a few steps to the beginning of the Eliza Furnance Trail, where we picked up a tandem bike...this way I figured my husband would be doing most of the pedaling and I'd take my usual position of sightseeing.

It took us a few minutes to get our balance and get into our rhythm, but once we got it, it was smooth sailing. The ride on the trail was fun, fun, fun waving and nodding at fellow trail users and taking in the scenery. When the Hot Metal Bridge came into view the excitement grew as we veered into the curve to enter the ramp that would take us to street level.

Yeah! we made it to Carson Street and the South Side Works where there was a Chili Cookoff going into high gear with a Mariachi Band. The street was blocked off and people of all ages and walks of life were enjoying the festivities. After tasting the chili's and voting we snagged a table to stand at and take in some refreshments that came out of a beer truck while mulling over what to do next.

We decided on the Double Wide Grill a few blocks down from where we were...loved the graffiti wall and the atmosphere (in one corner there is a porch glider ) of being in someones back yard.

As the day wound down we headed back to Golden Triangle Bicycle Rentals, dropped off the bike, hopped back on the ''T" for the return trip home and proptly fell asleep. Best tired I've ever had.
